Skincare Staples

Mar 18, 2021

For the longest time I never really cared much for skincare products. I simply washed my face with whatever soap I had in the shower and slapped some kind of fragrance free lotion on my face and called it a day. Back in high school I cared. I wore fancy products like Clinique because it's what my best friend gave me from her growing stash her mom spoiled her with. Usually, my skincare and makeup products were all given to me. And when I ran out my mother of course would say no. It was too pricey for a teenager to have. And that's when I switched to drug store brands. Which did a number to my skin over the years.

I developed horrible acne. Cystic acne to go with it. My pores were damaged and over-sized, I have really bad redness which I believe today is rosacea. I had dry patchy yet combination skin. And I honestly at the time did not care. I don't know why but I just didn't.

Today however is a different story. When I started working at the high school and now having to wear masks and developing maskne I thought to myself... why am I not taking better care of my skin? I mean people look at my face all. the. time. Plus it's a confidence booster to say the least. So I now have a routine, my skin has improved about 75% (with the occasional break out, blackhead, fine line from squinting my eyes so much) and I have never felt prettier.

But I wanted to share with all of you what I use on a daily basis. I am always looking for new skincare products. I even updated my Ipsy profile to get more skincare and haircare instead of makeup. Since I have enough makeup to last me a year, you can never ever have too much skincare. That's more important than masking your true face. If you want my honest opinion.

I don't stick with just one basic product either. It's good to use different moisturizers and eye creams and cleansers. To me, my face tends to adapt to a specific product and start to not work as best as it did when I started. Plus the bottles are just so pretty!!

Here is a list of the products I use below. You won't be disappointed if you plan on trying them! That's a promise!

1. Glossier Milk Jelly - ($18) A gentle-yet-effective creamy gel face wash for all skin types. I absolutely love this cleanser. I use it in the morning on damp skin to wash off last nights slept in skin and at night I use it dry to remove makeup and dirt. Dab a little warm water after rubbing it on my face for a little bit of soapy lather. Cleans my face very well.

2. Glossier Futuredew - ($24) A shortcut to the way your skin looks after a full skincare routine—dewy, glowing, cared-for—in one long-wearing product. I am in love with this serum. It gives you that dewy look. A little goes a long way. The directions suggest two pumps but I like to use one. It tends to get a little on the greasy side. Don't wear this before bed. You will wake up with grease stains on your pillow. I learned that the hard way.

3. Glossier Balmdotcom - ($12) A hydrating lip balm packed with antioxidants and natural emollients to nourish dry, chafed skin—in original or other fun flavors. I like to use this balm after cleaning my face and moisturizing. I also like to use it before I put on lipstick. It is universal so you can use it on your cuticles and elbows.

4. Glossier Priming Moisturizing Rich Face Cream - ($35) A rich, deeply moisturizing yet fast-absorbing face cream for day or night. This is the best face moisturizer I have ever used. I like to use it before I put my makeup on because it's a primer as well. And the smell is so good.

5. Glossier Super Bounce - ($28) A soothing combination of 2% Hyaluronic Acid Complex and Pro-Vitamin B5 that hydrates the skin on multiple levels. I went through this pretty quickly. Because I love it. It's really helped my skin. I see a big difference. My pores are smaller and I have less break outs. Plus my skin is really bouncy and younger looking.

6. Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask - ($22) A creamy, dreamy, works-on-all-skin-types mask for deep hydration. I use this about twice a week for a deep moisturizer. I live in Florida and the heat and humidity bakes my skin and I get super dry. You'd think a state that has a lot of humidity would make you moisturized on it's own. No way. Because you are constantly wiping at your face to get the sweat off. I like to apply it with my Clinique foundation brush. I don't use the type of foundation that needs that brush and it works perfectly. I'd like to keep my hands off my face as much as possible.

7. Glossier Bubblewrap Eye + Lip Cream - ($26) A silky eye + lip cream that hydrates your face’s two most delicate areas. I just recently got this and have used it twice out of pure excitement. I am not finished with my other eyecream just yet. But let me tell you this... my lips plumped right up and it wasn't uncomfortable! My eyes looked so young too. I can't wait to start using this more often.

8. Callyssee Whipped Moisturizing Cream - ($34) - Like a soufflé for your skin, this moisture-rich whipped face cream softens, soothes, and repairs signs of damage with a cocktail of aloe vera, calendula extract, coconut oil, and organic green coffee. I got this in my Ipsy bag for February. I do like it a lot but it's not very moisturizing MUCH. But it does the trick. I use it at night when I am not using my Glossier.

9. Glow on 5th Bye, Bye Puffy Eyes Eyecream - ($24) - Formulated for all skin types, this cooling, caffeine-infused under eye balm is the closest thing to a magic eraser for dark circles, puffiness, and tired-looking skin. I am almost finished with this eyecream. I got it in last months Ipsy. I have even used it on my husband and small nerd and they liked it too. My dark circles are finally gone. And the fine lines are barely noticeable.

10. Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub - ($15) - This super-fine sugar and walnut shell sugar lip scrub gently exfoliates and buffs away dry skin for softer, smoother lips. Usually once a week I exfoliate my lips from all the matte lipsticks and other lipsticks I have been playing around with. Plus it's always nice to have smooth lips. Who wants to kiss lips that feel like sandpaper?

11. CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion - ($17.78) - Developed with dermatologists, CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion has a unique, lightweight formula that provides 24-hour hydration and helps restore the protective skin barrier with three essential ceramides (1,3,6-II). The formula also contains hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s natural moisture. Not only do I use this in between other moisturizers but I use it on my body as well. Like I said, living in Florida you need to lather yourself up from head to toe!

What are you using? You have any recommendations? I am always game for newer stuff. You should see my Ulta cart and browser favorites. I just need to go ahead and create a Pin board of my wishlist.

  2. I need the bye bye puffy eyes. My husband had cystic acne growing up and I hope my girls don't get it. It is such a struggle for everyone.

  3. Natalie, thanks for sharing your favorite skin care products. I was very much like you and only ever washed my face with whatever soap was in the shower (usually Irish Spring! haha). I only just started using skin care products since I started blogging (in my 40's), but I really only need a moisturizer a few times a week with my normal daily face cleansing (in the shower and with Neutrogena wipes at bedtime). I also have found that a tablespoon of flaxseed oil in my morning smoothies really helped to improve the cystic acne that has started to come with my menstrual cycle. I wrote an extensive article about it last year that was featured in Women's World Magazine last March! The flaxseed oil was probably the most impactful discovery for my skin health! Thanks for sharing and linking with me.

    1. Cystic acne is THE worst. I am going to look for that article and read it! I used to put flaxseed in my smoothies. It cleared my skin right up too. I should do that again.
