The Double Cleanse Method

May 11, 2021

I remember when I started doing my skincare routine. I was kinda clueless to it all. There is so much to it. Looking back now I see why my face was a wreck and what I was doing wrong.

The first thing, I wasn't removing my makeup correctly. I wasn't using the right face soap either. And sometimes I went to bed in my makeup. Which, ew. Gross.

Side note - if you are using facial wipes I am just going to flat out say... STOP. You are causing tiny tears in your skin plus wipes are not environmentally friendly.

What exactly is the double cleanse method?? From this Allure article it states:
"It is extremely important to remove makeup, dirt, and pollutants that have accumulated on your skin during the day, before heading to bed. Sleeping with makeup on or forgetting to rinse your face before bed is a big no-no as it can cause major acne breakouts including painful cysts."
Basically double cleansing is lifting the dirt and grime, and then washing them away. It's a K-beauty trend. My skin has improved a lot more since starting double cleansing. I wish I did it sooner.

First you start off with a good oil based balm or jelly like product. I switch my products up from time to time. You could either try Grace & Stella's F Balm or my all time fave... Glossier Milk Jelly. You want to apply it to your face dry and gently massage in, breaking up all the makeup, sunscreen and impurities you collected throughout the day. Next, you cleanse. I use Grace & Stella Foaming Face Wash or I will use La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser. I would say La Roche is my Holy Grail. And on days when I need an extra boost, I use the new cleanser concentrate by Glossier they just released a few weeks ago. That stuff is AMAZING!

Afterwards you follow up with the rest of your skincare of your choosing. Just make sure you moisturize. That is the most important step in your routine (or ritual as I like to call it). It doesn't matter if you are combo/oily/dry. Put that facial lotion on your face baby!!

    1. I skip double cleansing on weekends because that's when I don't wear makeup.

  2. I hate to admit I use soap and water on my face before bed. Though I do have a coconut facial scrub I use in the shower. But I don't wear makeup or anything either.

  4. I honestly just use dove soap! I do use a sugar scrub for my lips though! I should probably elevate my skincare routine haha

    1. Dove soap is not good for your face but only your body. It doesn't have the ingredients to cleanse your pores properly. You might want to look into something else. Look into La Roche Posay or even Bliss! But sugar scrub is amazing though!!

  5. You are so right. I sometimes use the wipes, but I always use another cleaner after because they don't clean right. I always wash my face in the shower with great soap and cleanser.

    1. Yah no bueno on the wipes!! Wipes never clean right. They just push the dirt and makeup all over your face. The oil balm is what breaks it up and lift it off your face. Then the gentle face cleanser washes it away. I am telling you, your face will be silky smooth after!
